In a season filled with promising and extremely talented rookies, Darwin Lakoduk stood out. He not only caught the eye of VIJHL teams but also BCHL clubs like the Victoria Grizzlies, where he’s committed to play for the 2018/19 season.

Darwin is the 2017/18 recipient of the Larry Lamoureaux Award as the VIJHL’s top rookie.

Number 12 led the fifth place Victoria Cougars in scoring averaging a point per game.

Cougars’ Head Coach Suniel Karod has been impressed by Darwin all season long, “Darwin is a player that plays a high skilled game at top speed. He has a love for the game and work ethic that has helped him move to the next level. He’s exciting to watch, he’s a great teammate and makes players around him better. He continually is working to get better and be the best version of himself, but has a habit of putting his teammates before himself.”

Other rookies up for consideration were Booker Chacalias in Nanaimo, Josh Lingard in Peninsula and Jalen Price in Campbell River.
